How to Play Japanese Version of Miitomo in the U.S.

From IGN:

DISCLAIMER: To enable the Japanese version of Miitomo on iOS devices, you’ll have to change the iTunes region to Japan. Doing this will hide any apps or data you’ve downloaded in your base region, and will only reappear when you change the region back. To be safe, please back up your data just in case!

  • Log in to iTunes on your computer and open the app store. Log in with your Apple ID and scroll down to the bottom right to find a flag that lists your current country. By selecting that flag, you can change it to Japan.
  • Find the Miitomo App on the Japanese App Store (Currently on the front page), and click on it to download.
  • Instead of signing into your old Apple ID, hit the “Create New Apple ID” instead, agree to the terms and be sure to use an email account that isn’t already associated with your current Apple ID.
  • Fill out the rest of the page as best as possible. When asked for payment information, “None” should already be highlighted – so select it.
  • In the Billing Address section, use any name, but use Katakana text in the phonetic name boxes. As for the address – it needs to correspond to a place in Japan. You can use the postal code 100-0001 for Tokyo, also setting the prefecture as ‘Tokyo’ from the drop down list, and ‘Chiyoda-ku’ as the city. The phone number must be local (example: 090 area code) and any string of 8 digits for the number). The address can be anything you want.
  • Verify the account, and log in with your new Japanese Apple ID on your iOS (Be sure to read the disclaimer above!) and download the app. Remember your login credentials if you wish to update the game in the future.

How to Install on Android Devices

Android’s operation system behaves a bit differently, and is open enough that you can simply download the installation file (with the extension .apk) from the internet and load it onto your device.

  • To enable the side-loading feature, go into Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources (Note that this comes with risks by downloading software from the internet)
Please download with caution: You are solely responsible for what you download

Since the downloading of .apk files can be seen as questionable, and potentially dangerous and unethical if the app isn’t free, you’ll have to find the file on your own. Be sure that the file doesn’t require any special permissions to run.
