Next NBA Live will not Release until Early 2017

EA has announced that NBA Live 17 will not be released until the beginning of 2017. Some are asking if it should be released at all.

According to the EA Sports website, Executive Producer Sean O’Brien writes:

“It’s important that you know that we are committed to NBA LIVE in the console space. While we won’t be shipping a product this Fall, we will be back on the courts with something new and exciting for you to experience in early 2017.”

It’s no secret that the NBA Live franchise has struggled over the last decade to reclaim its throne from NBA 2K. The NBA 2K franchise came on strong when it released one of its earlier games for $19.99. As NBA2K caught fire, they were able to sneak under the radar and knock NBA Live off the throne almost overnight, and they haven’t looked back since.

Lets be honest, NBA Live should have died an honorable death years ago. Still, EA continues to throw endless money at the franchise. Remember NBA Live 13? No? You’re not alone. The company scrapped the game, and with good reason. NBA-Live-13-Splash-ImageThe graphics were bad, and the controls were equally horrible. To this day, I can’t understand why you need a button to shoot and another to dunk. Yet, here we are, awaiting a game that would normally release mid 2016 but has been pushed to 2017.

“Our focus this year is to deliver an amazing, high-quality basketball game to a global audience. The best way to do that is through the fastest growing, largest, and most accessible gaming platform…mobile. As a team, we’re really excited about taking the franchise to new places with the worldwide release of our mobile game later this year.” — Sean O’Brien

What Sean really should be saying is that they are waiting for NBA 2k17 to release so they can put the finishing touches on NBA Live 17 and make it, at least, somewhat competitive.

At the end of the day, it’s time to take the game to the backyard and give it an Old Yeller tribute.
