The Prelude coming September 9th!

Create and play with your custom player before NBA 2K17 hits stores with ‘The Prelude’.

2K has announced that they will release The Prelude on September 9 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s a way for gamers to engage in NBA 2K17 even before its released. Did I mention that it was free?

You may remember that 2K did something similar eight years ago when they created NBA 2K10 Draft Combine with Derrick Rose on the cover. During that time, they were introducing My Player for the first time. 2K figured, what better way to get gamers to experience My Player then to release Draft Combine weeks before the release of NBA 2K10. It got gamers that would otherwise look the other way, engaged in that aspect of the now popular mode.

Fast forward eight years, 2K has done it again. From Draft Combine, apps that scan your face, and now The Prelude, 2K continues to find ways to keep its fan base entertained and involved. Ok you got me, the face scan didn’t really take off exactly as planned but at least they tried. face

Through the years, 2K normally keeps its fan base up to date on news and expectations of their upcoming NBA 2K games, however, this year has been particularly dry. We have only seen one developer update thus far. Maybe we have to come to the reality that there may not be many big changes to the game this year. Or is it that the competition has fallen so far behind, that there is no need to butter us up anymore? With EA Sports announcing that NBA Live17 will not ship out until 2017, NBA 2K17 is now in the driver’s seat. Ok you got me…. they have always been in the driver’s seat.

Just when we thought the news on NBA 2K17 has dried up, they hit us with The Prelude. Here you will get to create your player, go thru the recruiting process, and play a few college games to get your stock up before the draft. nba2k17pre2

If you remember last years Spike Lee’s My Career mode, you had to play your way to the draft. This appears to be no different other than the fact that you don’t have to wait for the release of NBA 2K17 to do it. It appears that The Prelude allows you full customization over your player. Height, weight, and number are pretty standard. But this game goes even further with wingspan, and shoulder width.nba2k17pre1

Once customized, you will be able to play your way thru one of the 10 colleges available. I know what you’re thinking. ‘Man…why cant 2K just make a college hoops game?’ Truth is, no one wants to go thru all the legal red tape to do it. We all saw how badly it ended for EA Sports. I think they are still paying for that debacle.nba2kpre2

The Prelude will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 9 for free. Everyone who pre-orders NBA 2K17 will get it on September 16. For everyone else that didn’t pre-order… you’re an idiot. Just kidding, the main release is set for September 20. But seriously… just pre-order itnba2k17pre3
