Last month, on April 28th, Sega launched the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Hub on Steam and has seen an incredible amount of success with the content with over 350,000 downloads of titles by fans worldwide. Fans are able to either experience the classic titles for the first time, or take advantage of the all-new Steam Workshop modding support of these classic titles.
The modding scene for these classics has been taking off with hundreds of custom ROMS being uploaded by the community for download, since the launch last month.
“We’re really chuffed that the fans have got behind this update,” said James Schall, Director of Digital Distribution for SEGA Europe. “350,000 sales is a phenomenal achievement for content which is over 20 years old! It shows that there’s still a huge following out for the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis, reinvigorated by the fantastic community of modders out there uploading great content.”
You can log onto the SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics Hub website, and get more information about this service and other Sega updates.
